Peotone 207u Families,
I wanted to share an update on Mr. Owens. He continues to make progress each day and is currently recovering at home. Please keep him in your thoughts as he moves forward in his recovery journey.
During his leave, I will be stepping in as DeFacto Superintendent, carrying out both the superintendent and assistant superintendent responsibilities. Lisa Harrod, Superintendent of Manteno, has generously donated her time to serve in a consulting role during this interim period. While she won’t be working directly with students and staff, she will be an additional resource for me during this time. Thank you as well to our dedicated administrative team for working together to ensure a smooth and successful start to the school year.
We are excited to welcome our students back this week!
First Day of School (Grades 1–12): Thursday, August 21 (Common Plan Early Release—students will eat lunch at school)
Meet and Greet Appointments (PreK & Kindergarten): Thursday, August 21 & Friday, August 22 (by appointment only)
First Day of School (PreK & Kindergarten): Monday, August 25
In my welcome message to staff yesterday, I closed with a sentiment I’d like to share with you, our families, as we start the year:
Here in Peotone, we have something truly special. This is a community that rallies together—as we are right now for Mr. Owens—that takes pride in its schools and lifts one another up. This is our moment. Our moment to do something incredible, not just as individual teachers or schools, but as one united district.
That’s why our theme this year, Go Big Blue, is more than just a slogan. It’s a call to bring our very best every single day and to go big in everything we do.
Let’s make this a year filled with unforgettable moments—for our students, for one another, and for our community. Together, let’s Go Big Blue!
Looking forward to a great school year!

On Tuesday, we had our all-staff District Kick Off at Institute Day!💙 It was an incredible time of connection and celebration. Our admin team proudly launched this year’s Go Big Blue focus, and a special shoutout to Mr. McGovern for being our very own Blue Devil! We recognized the hard work of those that worked this summer to prepare for a successful start of the year, heard a welcome message from Board Member Ashley Stachniak, introduced our new staff, enjoyed games like Name that BLUE Tune and Which Came First, received important safety reminders from Officer Stankus, and listened to closing inspirational message from Mrs. Zurales! This is the only time each year our entire staff gathers together, and we loved sharing great conversations and lots of smiles over a delicious lunch from Del Santos. Now we’re ready to welcome students (Grades 1–12) on Thursday and our PreK/Kindergarten on Monday. Let’s Go BIG BLUE! 💙📘

Help us give a big Blue Devil welcome to our newest 207U teaching staff!
Over the past two days, these incredible educators participated in our New Teacher Orientation as part of the Blueprint Program—designed to ensure a successful start as a Blue Devil.
They enjoyed breakfast with our administrative team, learned about the district with Mrs. Zurales, set up their technology, completed onboarding with Mrs. Faber, explored 403b and insurance benefits, participated in breakout sessions with our instructional coaches, met with union leadership, had safety training with the MFPD, and spent their afternoons with their building administrators, building mentors, and department teams to prepare for the year ahead.
We are thrilled to have them join the Blue Devil community and can’t wait to see the amazing impact they will have on our students this year! 💙

Our last day of school is this Friday, May 30th. All schools will be implementing a common plan schedule.

Last night, we had the privilege of hosting Detective Rich Wistocki, a nationally recognized expert in Child CyberSafety and Cybercrimes. His presentation, “Keeping Our Kids CyberSafe,” was eye-opening, highly informative, and incredibly relevant for today’s digital world.
We understand that May is a very busy time for families. To ensure all parents have access to this valuable information, we’re pleased to provide a recording of the presentation.
Key topics included:
“Not My Kid” – Breaking the myth and recognizing warning signs
Online safety on platforms like Roblox and other popular games
The “Gold Ticket” for technology
Practical tools and strategies for monitoring social media and digital activity
We encourage you to take some time to watch the presentation and equip yourself with strategies to help keep your children safe online.

We are excited to announce that we will be hosting the first presenter in our Peotone Parent Partnership Series on Thursday, May 15, from 6:00–8:00 p.m. The event will feature Detective Rich Wistocki from the Be Sure Consulting CyberSafe Schools Team. Detective Wistocki is a nationally recognized expert in High Technology Cyber Crimes and will share proactive strategies, expert insights, and invaluable resources for ensuring children's cyber safety.
We recognize that May is a busy month, but we believe this presentation is especially important as we head into summer—a time when students’ technology usage tends to increase. Resources will be shared for those who cannot attend, but we hope to see you there!
Please see the attached flyer for all the details.

This Friday (March 14th) marks the end of our 3rd Quarter for Peotone Schools. As a reminder, we will be operating under a Common Plan schedule on Friday.
